Well, Hell Has Officially Frozen Over…

19 May

I was asked one time if I had or would ever vote for an American Idol contestant. Even though, I have rooted and cheered for some of them, I said that I would when Hell freezes over. Don’t get me wrong. I loved Chris Daughtry, and was a Cougar for Cook (David Cook), I just never wanted to spend my time or money on voting. I guess like so many other people, I figured if they win..well, they win.

Last night changed all of that. Lee Dewyze completely blew me away with his performance. I have been following the show this season and really thought that Crystal Bowersox had it in the bag. She is an amazing talent and I’m sure will have a great music career ahead of her. And, Casey James has a nice husky voice plus he is easy on the eyes. But, Lee blew them both out of the water last night with his performance of “Hallelujah”. I like that song anyway and this was by far the best rendition of it that I’ve ever heard.

Lee was a paint salesman in Chicago. And, all season, he seemed to lack confidence or belief in himself. He could sing but he wouldn’t really push it. Something has changed in Lee because he was in a league of his own on Tuesday’s show. He actually brought tears to my eyes while singing this song. And, he made me believe once again that you must believe in yourself and your dream or no one else will.

Lee Dewyze….I believe in you and your dream. Congrats…you actually made me want to vote for someone! And, I did. I voted for you!

I’m not a big fan of AI unless it is in the early tryouts where people are making complete asses of themselves.

My gripe is for the last 8 or so years they have produced artists who all sound the same. They are very generic and mainstream and I can’t tell one from the other.

This was a great performance, but I can see another generic artist in the future.

yellowcat….Yeah, I do like it the auditions! I hope that this guy won’t become just another generic singer. I have noticed the judge’s comments on the finalists about the need to be a viable commerical artist and I hated it when they said that. Who needs another commercial sounding artist? I think that this guy got my attention because he really just blended in until he got some confidence. He has really fantastic potential and could make some good music. Hope he doesn’t just become another one of those, “Who is that? He sounds just like so-and-so” singers. That would be a shame.

Hmm, I agree he was fantastic but he is so friggin sullen.Plus his crotch is always half way down his leg and he looks like he stinks. I have been a huge Crystal fan since the auditions and think she is going to be a music icon, if she doesn’t succumb to diabetes. Her doctors originally told her to pull out of the show because of her illness.

But you may not have found this…one of Lee’s songs

thanks, loon. I agree that Crystal is in a league of her own. She was right on the mark last night. If she doesn’t win…well…that will suck.
I think Lee was fantastic last week but no so much this week. BUT, I now know that I will be focused on his crotch tonight because I honestly have never noticed that. He appears sullen but I think that he’s just really kinda shy or not confident or something. I was just impressed with how far he has come since the audtions. Hell, I don’t even remember him at all until about 3-4 shows ago. I think the biggest problem with Lee is that stupid Kara (or Cara or Paula-fill in) keeps encourging him to sound COMMERCIAL. WHAAAT? We have enough generic sounding commercial singers. I do remember that Stepford Boy (son of a Stepford wife) who had the crazy girl hair and smiled ALL THE TIME! He was kinda strange.
Didn’t watch at all last yr but kinda accidentally got caught up in it this year. Even stuck around after all the stupid auditions. I think it was because of Crystal.

Goodbye to Simon means goodbye to AI. But, that’s OK. It’s getting rather old anyway.

Oh yeah…thanks for the FRIGGIN’ video! LOL I’m sure it will big-ass rock!

Well Lee has won so now they will have to find a way to make a rehashed friggin U2 song work. Good luck with that!

Yeah, I agree. BAD CHOICE! But to be honest, I couldn’t concentrate on much of anything except Joe Cocker reminded me of Hannibal Lector and Hall and Oats are still wearing those same old flannel shirts and jeans! And, I’ll betcha half of the demographic that watches AI didn’t even know who a lot of those performers are!

Oh, almost forgot….WTF with the Lee Dewyze video? Didn’t I hear at least a thousand times that he was a poor ol’ paint salesman and needed a music break? Apparently, he was the music virgin that I thought he was.
